Siding Coil Nailer
The professional building contractor and home DIY enthusiast find the siding coil nailer a tool they can’t live without. With a wide scope of applications when working on new construction, great for home renovators wanting to replace the siding to their home, or maybe a new deck area to enhance the outdoor living area, or even a new fence.
Speed and accuracy is delivered with each shot from these time saving tools. The nail magazine attached to the base hold a great number of nails usually between 200 - 300, most siding coil nailer employ bump fire for rapid nailing and single shot for precision nailing, siding coil nailers have certainly made an impact on the building trade.
These clever time saving tools are common place at construction sites were time is money. In later years building has certainly become a lot quicker and easier on the arms since a siding coil nailer can do most nailing jobs a hammer once did.
In the days when we only used to use a hammer the surface would be subject to user mistakes missing the nail and leaving marks on the projects. Here in Australia we call them two bob marks, a siding coil nailer will sink the nail to the depth you require without leaving a mark. Most have the ability to adjust how deep you would like to countersink the nail heads this feature alone has made this tool a favourite amongst those who demand a high level finish.
The majority of siding coil nailers have many built-in safety features such as trigger locks which will not allow the nailer to fire when applied. As with any tool, safety begins with the operator and using ones commonsense.
Carpenters that have used earlier heavier nailer models that had a static exhaust will no doubt appreciate the newer models which have exhausts that adjust 360 degrees and most weighing between 4 to 6 lb.
For a new gun costs can vary at different stores ranging from $200.00 to $400.00. Significant savings can be made if the purchaser knows which model they require to serve their purpose, from online auction sites such as Amazon and eBay or even online stores.
Speed and efficiency along with safety are the stand out features of this outstanding tool, the siding coil nailer.
Roofing Coil Nailer
When a homeowner or the professional roofing contractor is looking to replace the shingles on their roof, they want only the best tools that will create a secure hold on the shingles and also will assist in making the task a little easier. This is why the professional roofers use a roofing coil nailer.
This type of nail gun is purpose designed for roofing, usually featuring wear plates to protect against the abusive surface of a shingle roof, as well as skid pads to stop the tool from sliding down the roof. Also, many of the roofing coil nailer models have an adjustable shingle guide. These guides help the user to determine the correct placement of the nails to create a professional roof, thus, making the job go more efficiently.
Coil roofing nails are generally between 1” to 1 ½” long, heavy-duty ring shank. The ring shank on the coil nails are what prevents the nail from working its way out of the timber over time, providing a strong hold on the roof.

This prevents the user from having to exert too much effort when working on a large project as using a hammer, therefore, lessening the affects of fatigue.
The major advantage to using a roofing coil nailer is the magazine, holding on average around 120 nails depending on the brand, which means you will work longer between reloads. Compared with the method of days gone by manually using the old school hammer, a coil nailer will see the project finished in a fraction of time.
The average roofing coil nailer can cost a homeowner what may seem pretty penny, but the amount of use that one will get out of the tool will eventually pay for the product in no time. They can cost anywhere from $200 to $400, in stores but can be found much cheaper at Amazon and eBay depending upon which model and the manufacturer of the product. This is a well-worth it investment, though, for homeowners who are really looking to make a difference in fixing their roof.

How do I choose the
right coil nailer?
I have spent my life as a carpenter on building sites making a living from the talents of the trade that I posses and the vast array of quality tools in my kit. They say a good tradesman should never blame his tools! Which is true, and I have never met a good tradesman with low quality tools.
In saying that the first thing to look for whenever you are in the market to purchase (not just a coil nailer but any tool) should be good quality, this would be the first thing to check off you list! A well known brand is a good place to start.
I have fallen victim in the past buying cheap imports thinking I had found a bargain but in fact it was just the opposite, those imports did not even finish the first project I was working on at the time of purchase.
The next thing for you to do is determine what you intend to use your new coil nailer for? Each nailer has its own uses. Coil Framing Nailers are larger packing more punch, driving in nails averaging 2 ½ to 3 ½ inch in size which is ample size nails for framing. I have never used over a 3 inch nail in all the years I have been framing. A distinct advantage of using a coil framing nailer over a stick framing nailer is that the magazine hold considerably more nails.
Roofing and siding nailers are of similar size, roofing coil nailers will often have adjustable shingle guides to help keep your work consistent. If you are looking at a gun for dry wall, fibre cement or any project that marks easily you need to be sure the nose of the gun is not sharp and aggressive. On the other hand an aggressive nose is very handy on most other projects making it easy for the tip of the coil nailer to grip to the surface you are nailing when angle nailing.
As I say you should be looking for good quality from a well know brand such as Bostitch, Hitachi, DeWALT, Porter Cable, Milwaukee, Max, Makita, Duo-Fast, Wen, Paslode, Ridgid, Senco and Craftsman.
This doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune! but if you do pay a little more for a quality coil nailer I can assure you it will save you time and money in the long run.

Framing Coil Nailer

A framing coil nailer is one of the many different types of nail guns available. Most nail guns are designed for a specific use, and selecting the right one for the job requires advance understanding of the scope and purpose of the job at hand, the types of nails you will use and the unique capacities of the nail gun you choose.
A framing coil nailer is used in the construction and remodelling of buildings. When you are prepping for a large project, a nail gun will save you time and money over hand nailing; using a coil nail gun will save you even more.
Nail guns are manufactured with either stick or coil magazines to hold nails. A stick gun has a magazine that is straight and generally can only hold up to 50 nail strips, whereas a coil gun has a coiling magazine, which allows it to hold many more of the nails, which come in flexible strips. This saves the builder time when using thousands of nails in a day by lessening the number of times the magazine needs to be replaced.
Designed to hold the nail size generally used for framing and other building projects where nails are driven into wood, framing coil nailers have the balance and weight to make them ideal for use on framing and remodelling jobs.
The primary advantage of a framing coil nail gun is its ability to hold many nails and work without reloading for an extended period of time. Coil nailers also have loading doors that expose the firing chamber of the gun, which makes clearing jams fast and easy and increases their efficiency. Finally, framing coil nailers cost about the same as stick guns, ranging from $200 to $500 or more, making them the economical choice for a large job.
